S’il suffisait d’aimer is an album by Céline Dion released in 1998, primarily produced in collaboration with Jean-Jacques Goldman. It is rooted in French-language pop with a strong emotional and orchestral dimension. The album prominently showcases C line Dion s voice through simple and effective arrangements. It features several key tracks such as S’il suffisait d’aimer and On ne change pas. Considered one of the major albums in her French-language discography, it achieved both commercial success and critical acclaim. It remains a reference in 1990s French pop music.

Summary, scoring and Samples
Ed 1: Apple Stereo – 2025
Presentation
This is the Apple Music stereo presented in 16 bits 44.1 kHz.

Waveform and Spectrum: DR9
The waveform of the Apple Stereo – 2025 version shows a low dynamic range confirmed with DR9, but this is mainly noticeable on the loudest tracks.
The spectrogram shows that the signal rises to 22 kHz with no signal above this frequency due to the 44.1 kHz sampling frequency.

The graph below compares the spectrum of the Apple Stereo – 2025 (white curve) with the spectrum of the CD – 1998 (blue curve). The curves of the two spectra overlap perfectly.

Synthesis and listening
The sound of the streaming version is similar to that of the CD.

Ed 2: Apple Dolby Atmos – 2025
Presentation
This is the Apple Music Dolby Atmos presented in Dolby Digital Plus.

Spatialization:
The spatialization of Apple Dolby Atmos – 2025 version varies from track to track, with values between 2.8 and 6.7.
Spatialization : ●●●●●ooooo (5.2)

Waveform and Spectrum: DR14
The waveform of the Apple Dolby Atmos – 2025 shows a high range confirmed with DR14.
The spectrogram of the Tidal Dolby Atmos track in 7.1.4 is limited to 20kHz with no signal above . This limitation is due to Dolby Digital Plus encoding, which is a lossy encoder that limits bandwidth to optimize data size for a bit rate of 768 kbits/s. The bass channel (LFE) is not used.

The graph below represents the spectrum of the Apple Dolby Atmos – 2025.
The spectrum of Dolby Atmos version decoded in 7.1.4 shows that all channels are used without the LFE channel. The white arrow indicates the high-frequency limit at 20 kHz due to Dolby Digital Plus encoding. The yellow arrow indicates the high-frequency limit at 24 kHz due to encoding at the 48 kHz sampling frequency used.

Synthesis and listening
The Dolby Atmos version is a pleasant surprise: while one might expect only a purely front-focused mix, the side and rear channels are actually used to widen the soundstage and distribute the instruments, giving the music greater depth and scale. The height channels, however, are used sparingly. It offers a different way to rediscover this album, with excellent dynamics. However, they do not match the standard of reference immersive mixes, such as those awarded at the Grammy Awards. A Dolby Atmos TrueHD version would likely provide even greater refinement, especially in the vocals and instruments.

Ed 3: CD – 1998
Presentation
This is the original CD released in 1998 (ref:)

Waveform and Spectrum: DR9
The waveform of the CD – 1998 version shows a low dynamic range confirmed with DR9, but this is mainly noticeable on the loudest track.
The spectrogram shows that the signal rises to 22 kHz with no signal above this frequency due to the 44.1 kHz sampling frequency.

The graph below compares the spectrum of the White vinyl record – 2019 (white curve) with the spectrum of the CD – 1998 (blue curve). The curves of the two spectra overlap almost perfectly up to 4 kHz. Beyond that, a 1 to 2 dB attenuation can be observed on the vinyl record (yellow area), while still closely following the CD spectrum curve up to 22 kHz. Beyond this point, the vinyl signal remains present, but with distortion and surface noise inherent to the nature of vinyl playback.

Synthesis and listening
This CD edition is the reference version of the album, delivering excellent vocal rendering along with a well-defined soundstage. It is in its digital stereo version that the album is best known, even though the dynamics are slightly reduced on the loudest passages.
Rating:
- Dynamic: ●●ooo (2.5)
- Bandwidth: ●●●●o (4)
- Restitution: ●●●●o (4)

Ed 4: 360RA – 2025
Presentation
This is the Amazon Music presented in Sony 360 RA (Reality Audio).

Spatialization:
The spatialization of 360RA – 2025 version varies from track to track, with values between 3.0 and 7.4.
Spatialization : ●●●●●ooooo (5.5)
Below the spatialization for all tracks. Click on the images to zoom in.

Waveform and Spectrum: DR14
The waveform of the 360RA – 2025 shows a high range confirmed with DR14.
The spectrogram of the Amazon 360RA track in 7.1.4 is limited to 20kHz with no signal above . This limitation is due to MPEG-H encoding, which is a lossy encoder that limits bandwidth to optimize data size for a bit rate from 680 to 1600 kbits/s. The bass channel (LFE) is not used.

The graph below represents the spectrum of the 360RA – 2025.
The spectrum of Amazon 360RA version decoded in 7.1.4 shows that all channels are used without the LFE channel. The white arrow indicates the high-frequency limit at 20 kHz due to MPEG-H encoding. The yellow arrow indicates the high-frequency limit at 24 kHz due to encoding at the 48 kHz sampling frequency used. In this sample, the center channel is less prominent than in the Dolby Atmos version.

Synthesis and listening
A competitor to Dolby Atmos, Sony’s 360 Reality Audio format is now mainly available on Amazon Music. Its spatial rendering remains somewhat different from Dolby Atmos, offering a very pleasant experience with a slightly different spatialization. However, the overall dynamics remain similar.
Rating:
- Dynamic: ●●●●o (4.5)
- Bandwidth: ●●●●o (4)
- Spatialization: ●●●●●ooooo (5.5)
- Restitution: ●●●●o (4)
Sample : En attendant ses pas. 7.1 Dolby Atmos (Downmixed in 7.1) :

Ed 5: White vinyl record – 2019
Presentation
This is a special reissue on white vinyl. The music is spread across three sides, while the fourth side features an etching with no audio content (ref: 88985450201)

Waveform and Spectrum: DR11
The waveform of the White vinyl record – 2019 version shows a good dynamic range confirmed with DR11.
The spectrogram shows that the signal rises above 20 kHz (yellow arrow) with signal above this frequency (white arrow) containing musical information and distortion due to the vinyl record s operating principle.

A well-produced vinyl pressing, despite a relatively low cutting level, which reduces the signal-to-noise ratio of the medium. The sound is close to that of the CD, with smoother highs than the digital edition, consistent with the attenuation observed in the vinyl spectrum above 4 kHz.
Rating:
- Dynamic: ●●●oo (3.5)
- Bandwidth: ●●●●● (5)
- Surface noise: ●●●oo (3.5)
- Restitution: ●●●oo (3.5)
Sample : En attendant ses pas. 24 bits 192 kHz:
The CD remains the reference stereo version, offering a balanced rendering and a strong emphasis on vocals. Apple Music streaming is similar, with a sound very close to the CD. The Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Reality Audio versions add real value by expanding the soundstage and enhancing immersion through a more enveloping spatial presentation. The vinyl provides a softer listening experience, but is slightly less detailed in the high frequencies. Overall, the immersive versions and the CD (or Apple Music stereo streaming) represent the most accomplished listening experiences.
Dynamic Range measurements and spectra are shown below.

I love Celine Dion but all of her recordings bar Atmos have low DR. “Falling Into You 1995” DR7 CD, SACD, 2015 24-96 D8. Lets Talk About love 1997 CD DR9. Encore un soir (Deluxe Edition) 2016 24-96 digital DR6. I suspect her husband/manager was responsible plus her record company. Its such a shame all her recordings need to be remastered without low DR. The most enjoyable to listen to is her Live in Las Vegas concert on bluray New Day created by Dragone. I hardly ever listen to the audio recordings anymore.
